Terms & Conditions
These terms and conditions outline how counselling services are provided by Human Counselling. They are designed to ensure clarity, safety, and mutual understanding between counsellor and client.
By engaging in counselling with Human Counselling, you are agreeing to these terms.
1. About the Service
Human Counselling provides professional counselling services to adults in the UK.
Counselling is a collaborative process and outcomes cannot be guaranteed. The work may involve exploring difficult or emotional experiences, and clients are encouraged to engage at a pace that feels manageable.
2. Professional Standards
Human Counselling works in accordance with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions.
This includes commitments to confidentiality, professional boundaries, competence, supervision, and ongoing professional development.
3. Appointments and Sessions
-
Sessions usually last 50 minutes, unless otherwise agreed
-
Sessions may take place online or in person, depending on the service offered
-
The agreed session time is reserved for you
If you arrive late, the session will still end at the scheduled time.
4. Fees and Payment
-
Fees will be clearly discussed before counselling begins
-
Payment is required as agreed, usually in advance of sessions
-
Details of fees, concessions, or sliding scale arrangements will be confirmed individually
If fees need to be reviewed or changed, this will be discussed in advance.
5. Cancellations and Missed Sessions
If you need to cancel or reschedule a session, please provide at least 48 hours notice.
-
Sessions cancelled with less than 48 hours notice may still be charged
-
Missed sessions without notice are usually charged in full
Exceptions may be made in cases of illness or unforeseen circumstances, at the counsellor’s discretion.
6. Confidentiality
Everything shared in counselling is treated as confidential.
Confidentiality may be broken in limited circumstances, including:
-
Risk of serious harm to you or others
-
Safeguarding concerns involving a child or vulnerable adult
-
Legal requirements such as a court order
Where possible, this will be discussed with you before any disclosure is made.
7. Data Protection and Privacy
Personal data is handled in line with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
Further details about how personal information is collected, stored, and used can be found in the Privacy Policy, available on the Human Counselling website.
8. Contact Between Sessions
Contact outside of sessions is kept to a minimum and is usually limited to:
-
Scheduling or practical matters
-
Brief check ins where appropriate
Human Counselling does not provide crisis support. If you are in immediate danger, please contact emergency services or a relevant crisis service. Please click here for more information.
9. Ending Counselling
You are free to end counselling at any time.
Where possible, a planned ending session is encouraged to support reflection and closure. Human Counselling also reserves the right to end counselling if it is no longer appropriate or safe to continue, with appropriate notice and support where possible.
10. Complaints
If you have concerns about the counselling service, you are encouraged to raise them directly with Human Counselling in the first instance.
If concerns cannot be resolved, you may choose to follow the complaints process outlined by the BACP.
11. Changes to These Terms
These terms and conditions may be updated occasionally. The most recent version will always be available on the Human Counselling website.
